Alakazam is a powerful and influential special sweeper. With Pokemon like Infernape, Gengar and Azumarill Alakazam can work well as a powerful revenge killer.

Checks and Counters
Counter: There really isn't a specific type of counter for Alakazam. Most special walls are shut down by Psyshock. However, Hippowdon, Crobat and Umbreon are two Pokemon that can stop Alakazam in its tracks. As a special wall, Umbreon absorbs all of Alakazam's attacks, being immune to Psyshock due to Dark typing. Umbreon can use Pursuit to deal double damage if Alakazam tries to switch, or Assurance to deal double damage as well, after already taking a hit. Hippowdon can take an Energy Ball and remain at 50% HP, while it can OHKO with Crunch. Crobat outspeeds, and OHKOs Alakazam with Acrobatics as long as it doesn't have an item.
